LG G3 to arrive on May 17th

According to a Korean media, the LG G3 flagship release date will be May 17th, and it will sport a QHD display 1440 x 2560 resolution. That shortens the typical annual upgrade cycle since the G2 a bit, but apparently LG doesn't want to leave much sales on the table to the Galaxy S5, like it did last year.

The screen diagonal is reported to be slightly larger than on the G2, to a speculated 5.5 inches, which would naturally mean quite the thin bezel all around, if LG wants to keep the overall size in check, too. Previous rumors pegged the rear camera to be 16 MP, probably with OIS technology, while the processor part rumor is more interesting, claiming LG's own Odin mobile chipset will be in there.

Samsung Nexus 10 [2014] specs leaked

@evleaks shared an image of what looks to be Samsung’s Nexus 10 on Twitter, but this leak comes with an unusual addendum alerting followers that he can’t vouch for the leak’s validity.

According to the tweet, the new Nexus 10 will feature an Exynos 5 chip, WQXGA display, 3GB of RAM, 3- and 5-megapixel cameras and Android 4.5. The tablet will also come in 16GB and 32GB variants. It’s a very sketchy leak, but until Samsung or Google make an official announcement regarding the next Nexus 10, it’s all we have to go on.

@evleaks has taken down the tweet with the image and supposed specs after another report signaled that the leak was likely a hoax.

Samsung Galaxy S5 to be unveiled in New York City during March

Recently report from an Italian journalist Flavio Piccioni, who heard from a reliable source, that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would be unveiled in London around the middle of March. Of course, that would contradict the popular idea that the next iteration of Samsung's Android flagship handset would be unwrapped at MWC in February.

A published report out of Korea on Tuesday, cites an anonymous Samsung official who says that the MWC is mostly for business meetings and that the timing is wrong for an unveiling of the Galaxy S5 in Barcelona. And instead of a March launch in London, this executive says that the unveiling will be in New York City instead.

That might not seem terribly surprising considering that the Samsung Galaxy S4 was introduced to the world in New York City's Times Square last March. If the Korean based OEM is going back to the Big Apple to unveil the Galaxy S5, we wonder if HTC will be hanging out nearby with the HTC One+ like they did last year with the HTC One.

HP Slate 6 features a Quad-core processor, dual SIM and with HD screen

Last month a reported stated that, HP intends to release a 6" and 7" Android devices, priced less than $250 each. Naturally, at this price, they are intended more to secure some foothold for HP in markets like China and India. Dubbed HP Slate 6 Voice Tab, the 6-incher already appeared at the Bluetooth certification and graphics benchmark databases.

Now we got sent a tiny, blurry picture, supposedly from a presentation at the HP Labs, which shows the back of a whitish device that has the HP logo on it.

Our tipster claims that this is precisely what the HP Slate 6 will look like, and it will indeed sport a basic quad-core processor, 1280x720 pixels HD display, dual SIM network support, and have a price tag around the very affordable $200 mark without a contract.

Sony Xperia Z2 (C770x) a.k.a 'Sirius' leaked

About a week ago, we have seen a Sony mysterious device codenamed 'Sirius' and now according to our sources, the 'Sirius' is the codename for the Sony Xperia Z1 successor Xperia Z2 and Sony will unveil the Xperia Z1 successor at the MWC as we all know that the Sony Sirius was tipped to launch at the MWC 2014 and the device is rumored to feature a 5.2 inches of display having resolution of 2560 x 1440 which is similar to the Xperia Z2 rumored display size.

Nokia Normandy Spotted once again in China

A user on a Chinese website Weibo has posted the live picture showing the app launcher of the Nokia Normandy phone.

We already saw the Normandy numerous times in the wild, so we know pretty much everything there is to know about the anticipated droid - we know its specs, how it looks and even an alleged announcement date during the MWC this year.

And now, in case you've wondered what a Nokia-designed Android launcher would look like, you get a chance to see it. It's obviously inspired by the Asha lineup as is the hardware of the prototype and is unlike anything else in the market right now.

[Leaked] Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo

Earlier this week, a new upcoming Samsung phablet was uncovered when preliminary specs for the Galaxy Note 3 Neo. Now, the device that will be a more affordable version of the company’s popular Note 3 phablet has apparently been pictured for the first time. SamMobile posted the photo above on its Twitter feed on Friday and no other details were provided. An earlier report suggested that the Note 3 Neo will feature a 5.55-inch 720p Super AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera, a 3,100 mAh battery, 2GB of RAM and a new 6-core processor when it debuts in the near future.

It's likely that we'll get official word of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo at MWC 2014 next month.

Nokia Normandy leaks, dual-SIM and runs on Android 4.4

Last month we learned the codenamed Normandy device is supposed to be an entry-level Android smartphone. The leaks suggested Normandy will be reusing the iconic Lumia design and will come in a plethora of different colors, just like the affordable Asha and Lumia phones.

@evleaks has posted renders of Normandy running on Android. We get to see a glimpse of Nokia's launcher, particularly the lockscreen, Viber and Skype apps. Judging by the Normandy's status bar, this should be a dual-SIM phone.

Another leaks from today sheds some more light on the alleged Normandy specs. As it turns out someone has put the Normandy through AnTuTu's test, so we can see some of its specs. Nokia RM-980 A110 codenamed Normandy reported featuring a 4" FWVGA display (480x854 pixels), a 5MP rear camera and runs on Android 4.4.1 KitKat. Naturally, the chipset powering the Normandy is Qualcomm Snapdragon.

 

If Normandy is similar to the previously tipped "Mountain View" Android prototype, then it might be running (as previously suggested) on the Snapdragon 200 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A5/Adreno 203 or quad-core Cortex-A7/Adreno 302).

Galaxy S5 to be released on January 2014.

the Galaxy S5 – could be set to arrive as soon as January. If true, it would be a real break away from the spring-summer launches we’ve witnessed these past couple of years, and would leave Galaxy S4 users feeling more short-changed than they perhaps already do.

The report arrives courtesy of Korean publication Naver, and suggests that the rushed release is a result of the Galaxy S 4 not shifting as many units as Samsung had anticipated. The device will, according to the report, be showcased in January of next year, with the release to consumers taking place in February.

In terms of specs, the report talks of a 64-bit octa-core Exynos processor, as well as a 16-megapixel OIS camera. Sounds like overkill, of course, but then again, such is the case with the vast majority of smartphones on the market today. With Samsung already expressing its lack of interest in building a fingerprint sensor for its device range, could it be that the Korean outfit is planning to take at least one leaf from the Apple stork by going all 64-bit on us?

Almost every facet of the report seems made up, but if, by some reach, Samsung is planning to unveil a new-year gift to the smartphone industry in January of next year, it stands to reason that we’ll start hearing about it pretty soon.

Google may launch its Smartwatch alongside Android 4.4 KitKat

Google is likely to officially lift the cover off Android 4.4 KitKat, and likely a Nexus 5 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet, but it might have one more surprise - a smartwatch. A device codenamed Gem may launch alongside Android 4.4 KitKat on a massive event scheduled for October 31st, according to Android Police co-founder Artem Russakovskii.

Other information states that the Google smartwatch could have begun life as a Motorola product called the xWATCh, which would have been released with the Moto X (or XFON). It looks like plans changed, and it was turned into a Google product. Hopefully we’ll see it come very soon, and hopefully it’s a lot more innovative than the current crop of smartwatches.

BBM for Android leaks

BBM for Android leaks out, but you can't use it yet.
It appears that the service is still locked down on Android unless you're on "the whitelist", so if you don't have a whitelisted BBID then you'll get stuck on the setup screen and that will be the end of it.

You can download it anyway if you just want to check it out then let it rest as we await the real deal in the days to come.

Nexus 5 coming from LG

Tipped to launch in the fourth quarter, the Nexus 5 is said to be the first handset to carry Android Key Lime Pie. The Google Nexus 5 is expected to land from LG for a second year in a row, and be loosely based on the G2 flagship. The device is also notable for its 5.2 inch full HD display and a Snapdragon 800 processor with a wider screen than equivalent devices because of the extra space afforded by removing side buttons with a very thin bezel on the sides, and camera unit moved closer to the edge of the phone.

A glass back will make its way onto the Nexus 5, in line with the tradition started last year, for what sounds like a killer Android phone, especially if Google again releases it at cost or with slightly subsidized pricing like the last Nexus.

We don't know if the superior audio quality and OIS tech of the G2 will make it into this purported Nexus 5, but if all of this is true, more leaks shouldn't be far behind, as the summer is almost over, and we all know the onslaught that will follow on the way to the holiday shopping craze.

Key Lime Pie spotted running on Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices

It’s been a littler over a year since Android 4.1 Jelly Bean first made its way to Nexus devices. Not quite a huge leap from the Ice Cream Sandwich that debuted in the Galaxy Nexus, Jelly Bean merely patched up and addressed some of Android’s UI inconsistencies, improving the user experience overall. When it comes to the next big jump in Google’s mobile OS, all eyes are pointed to the next Nexus device which, going by Google’s current track record, will most likely release towards the end of this year.

The upcoming version of the Android OS just got a little more real today after build number KRS36B was caught running on both the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. Developer “dknandiraju” posted a list of his devices used in testing Chromium, where a few Galaxy devices running Jelly Bean were mentioned, along with the Nexus 4 and 7 running this mysterious new build number.

For those unaware, Jelly Bean builds start with the letter designation of J, with the most recent being JWR66V (Android 4.3). This means these devices could have been running Key Lime Pie (the specific Android number has yet to be determined), and other than that… well, not much else. Guess it’s just exciting to catch a glimpse of Key Lime Pie, no matter how small. Then again, perhaps we need to get out more.

Images of the Xperia ZU Leaked!

The images show off how sensitive this new Xperia’s touchscreen really is. The heart was on the touchscreen as well. While this isn’t terribly exciting news or anything, it does give credence to the rumor that this device is going to be shipping with pen-input, something we’ve been hearing for a long time now.

Let’s take a look at those specs;

- 6.44-inch IPS LCD display (1920 x 1080) with 342ppi

- 2.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor

- 2GB of installed RAM

- 16GB internal storage capacity with MicroSD expansion slot (up to 64GB)

- 8MP rear facing camera (Sony Exmor RS sensor), with 1.3MP front facing

- 3,000mAh non-removable battery

The size of the device alone suggests that Sony is going after Samsung’s Note line but, the question is can they go after Samsung on the software front? Love it or hate it, TouchWiz has a lot of added value when it comes to the S-Pen, with apps that get the most out of the pen-input and offer users some real productivity tools. Sony has often kept their skin close to that of stock Android, so it will be interesting to see just what Sony can bring to the table with the Xperia ZU.

Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 gold-brown variant image leak

According to a leaked promotional image, it looks like Samsung may be providing an additional color option for the Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 as a “golden brown” version has been spotted.

The image was spotted in no other from the Evleakes, although they didn’t provide any additional information regarding the additional color option of the 7-inch tablet. The device still features a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, as well as a dual-core CPU at 1.2 GHz, powered by 1 GB of RAM memory with either 8GB or 16GB or internal storage, microSD card slot, a 3 megapixel rear camera and a 1.3 megapixel front camera. It has a 4,000 mAh Li-ion battery, and runs on Android 4.1.

Google introduces keyboard for Android

Google has introduce its own keyboard app for the Android OS. Google Keyboard has Gesture Typing (which lets you glide through letters to form a word, just lift your finger to enter a space), automatic error correction, and word predictions. You can also tap the microphone to compose messages with Voice Typing when you’re on-the-go. Together with dictionaries for 26 languages (plus keyboard layouts for a dozen more), it provides a fast, accurate, and reliable typing experience.

Alleged HTC One 'Mini' Leaked

Pictures of what is said to be the HTC One "Mini" have leaked onto the internet. The device features a 4.3-inch 720p display, 2GB of RAM, a dual-core processor, and HTC's 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera.

According to a translation of the report, the phone will allegedly have the same aluminum finish as the larger HTC One and will launch as early as August for 400 Euro (around $522).

Jolla unveils first Sailfish OS smartphone

Finnish startup Jolla has announced its first smartphone, which shows off its Sailfish OS on a 4.5-inch screen. The device integrates the company's unique back covers with the software, allowing the look to change and new features to be added.

Jolla, which was founded by a former Nokia employees who wanted to continue the development work the Finnish phone maker had done on the MeeGo OS, is with the introduction one big step closer to entering the ultra-competitive smartphone market.

The LTE-smartphone—which is just called Jolla, for now—is powered by a dual-core processor and has an 8-megapixel camera. It also has 16GB of integrated storage which can be expanded using an SD card.

The smartphone has been designed to look like two thin slabs that have been bonded together, and users can change the color of the back one with different snap-on covers. The back cover isn't just about the hardware design. It is integrated with the OS and can be used to add features and change the look, a concept Jolla calls "the other half."

The company's core offering is the Sailfish operating system, which Jolla hopes will lure users away from competing platforms. To help boost the availability of apps, the OS will be able to run Android applications.

The heart of the OS consists of thumbnails of opened applications on the home screen from which users also can access multiple features directly by scrolling from side-to-side or just clicking on them to access the main feature.

The Jolla will start shipping during the fourth quarter and cost €399 ($510) including taxes in the EU. It can be preordered on Jolla's website.

The market for smartphone operating systems will get a lot more crowded this year, as the respective backers of Firefox OS, Ubuntu and Tizen are also expected to launch their first phones. The only thing Jolla has got going for it is its small size, which means it doesn't have to sell many devices to survive, according to Francisco Jeronimo, research director at IDC.

All of the new operating systems will have a very hard time even making a dent in Android and iOS' dominance. Firefox OS and Tizen are expected to have a share of less than 5 percent in five years, according to IDC, which isn't even tracking Ubuntu and Sailfish.

Blackberry Messenger coming to Android and iOS this summer for Free.

BlackBerry has just announced that its hugely popular BBM messaging service is going multi-platform: it will be released for Android and iOS this summer. BBM will support iOS hardware running iOS 6 and above; the Android version will be compatible with version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above as a free app in the App Store and Google Play. "It's time to bring BBM to a greater audience," CEO Thorsten Heins said in announcing the expansion, "no matter what mobile device they carry."

The company said that it would be bringing messaging and groups functionality to new platforms first but also has plans to introduce voice features, screen sharing, and its just announced ”social engagement platform” dubbed ‘Channels’ in future releases. BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins said the company is “committed to making the BBM experience on other platforms as fully featured” as possible.

The app will be fully featured, with key ingredients like group messaging and screen sharing all coming to the rival platforms.
