iOS 7 to be available to the public on September 10th.

An apple developer received an email indicating that iOS 7 would be released to the general public on the 10th, giving non-developers their first peek at the controversial operating system. The email comes from Nuance, which works closely enough with Apple to know the date in advance.

The news could also indicate that the release date of the new iPhones will come much closer to the September 10th event itself. Apple could even opt for a day-of release, a move the company has executed successfully with other products, but never attempted with the iPhone.

YouTube For iOS Updated With Live Streaming Support

Google, the search giants has been spending a lot of time on its YouTube app for iOS. It isn’t too surprising, as the search giant was more or less forced to release their own when Apple dropped it from iOS 6. This time around, the app comes with the ability to access live streams right from the iOS app, letting you tune into live events while on the go.

Aside from the live streaming, there’s a new My Subscriptions feed, which gives you quick access to new uploads, as well as support for video queuing for TV playback.

Beyond that, there are a couple of minor additions along with a new performance and stability improvements.

Apple releases iOS 6.1 beta 2 to developers

Apple has released the second beta of iOS 6.1 to developers, with Map Kit enhancements and Passbook improvements, alongside a new Apple TV software beta and a new preview of Xcode 4.6.

The iOS 6.1 beta 2 is known as build 10B510c, and is compatible with all iPads except the original, the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 3GS, and the 4th and 5th generations of the iPod touch.

The second beta arrived little more than a week after Apple released the first iOS 6.1 beta to developers, and an iOS 6.0.1 update to the public, bringing bug fixes and minor improvements to Apple's latest mobile operating system.

Apple Insider reports that "developers have said that the first beta of iOS 6.1 was relatively stable, but there some crashing issues did occur when using the camera's panorama mode".

The latest build of iOS 6.1 adds further improvements to the Map Kit framework that allows third-party developers to use Apple's Maps service to search for map-based addresses and points of interest.

Apple has also added a note to help beginners get to grips with Passbook, the virtual wallet that was introduced with iOS 6 in September. While Passbook is largely redundant in the UK at present, it looks set to be making its way into our lives, and British Airways has said that it wants to join Apple's e-ticketing scheme "as soon as we can".

Apple iPad Mini to be Wi-Fi only.

The iPad Mini, the scaled-down tablet that everyone is expecting Apple to unveil next week, is now rumoured to be a Wi-Fi only model.

With a press invite thought to be hitting the in-boxes of media organisations around the world later today, the iPad Mini has been all but confirmed.

Apple has been as tight-lipped as usual, but some very convincing leaks have persuaded most in the tech world of the iPad Mini’s existence.

According to reports, Apple has decided against a 3G-enabled version of the iPad Mini, choosing instead to keep the low-cost tablet a Wi-Fi only model.

No 3G for Apple iPad Mini?

The Guardian newspaper has cited unnamed industry sources as saying they do not expect to see a 3G iPad Mini.

This will come as a disappointment to those hoping to get all the perks of an iPad without the price tag, but it is hardly a surprising decision.

Apple will want to keep costs down in order to compete with the likes of the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire, and cutting out 3G allows them to do that.

Neither the Nexus 7 nor the Kindle Fire HD has 3G connectivity either, so Apple wouldn’t lose out on that front.

However, rumours abound that Google is considering a 3G-enabled Nexus 7 for release in the run-up to Christmas. While this would probably cost a bit more than the sub-£200 price tag we’ve seen so far, it would have a distinct advantage over its rivals.

Is Apple launching 4G iPad?

It seems that an iPad Mini isn’t the only tablet Apple is releasing in the coming weeks; reports suggest that it is preparing to launch a revised 9.7-inch iPad as well.

The new version of the iPad released earlier this year is rumoured to have super-fast 4G connectivity, and will be available exclusively on Everything Everywhere’s 4G network.

The updated tablet will also come with Apple’s new Lightning dock that first made an appearance on the iPhone 5 recently.
