More iPhone 6 details emerge

Apple’s next-generation iPhone 6 will not feature a 13-megapixel or 16-megapixel camera as had been previously rumored. Instead, the upcoming handset will apparently sport an 8-megapixel unit that touts improvements in other areas.

“According to Nomura Securities, Largan’s recently lagging performance in the market is caused by rumors that Apple may adopt an 8 mega-pixel (MP) camera with improved optical image stabilization on its upcoming handset, instead of the 16 MP upgrade anticipated by industry observers,” The China Post’s Ted Chen wrote. “Apple’s decision is based on the design requirement to retain the handset’s more portable form factor, said Nomura Securities.”

The latest rumors suggest that Apple is prepping two new iPhone models that will debut this year. The first is supposedly an iPhone phablet that could launch as early as May, and the second is the iPhone 6, which will supposedly be thinner than the iPhone 5s and will feature a larger 4.7-inch display that reaches nearly to the edges of the device on either side.

iPhone 5C specs Leaked with Siri included

Pictures of the iPhone 5C have been leaked several times on the internet for the past weeks which shows mainly the design, but the specifications are still basically unknown. Today a  new report leaks online which shows the full detailed specification of the iPhone 5C.

Although the American manufacturer has not yet confirmed anything, the name of the device iPhone 5C seems also officially confirmed, where the “C” presumably stands for color.

This makes the device slightly larger and narrower than the iPhone 5, but these differences are minimal. The thickness remained unchanged, despite recent leaked cases that showed a slightly thicker design. The weight is 6 grams decreased, which can be explained by the plastic housing.

The predicted retail price of the iPhone 5C is set around $ 400 for the 16 GB version, and the release is set for the end of September.

iOS 7 to be available to the public on September 10th.

An apple developer received an email indicating that iOS 7 would be released to the general public on the 10th, giving non-developers their first peek at the controversial operating system. The email comes from Nuance, which works closely enough with Apple to know the date in advance.

The news could also indicate that the release date of the new iPhones will come much closer to the September 10th event itself. Apple could even opt for a day-of release, a move the company has executed successfully with other products, but never attempted with the iPhone.

Leaked Parts of the Gold iPhone 5S

Today’s emergence of the possibility of a gold colored iPhone 5S is definitely up there with the unexpected speculative topics. It may seem a little unlikely to some, but newly leaked images that show purported parts of the sparkling device add more fuel to the growing fire.

It’s also interesting to note that the source of the images are claiming that they have purposely removed any sign of the Apple branding or iPhone trademark from the back of the device’s shell. It seems rather strange that this would happen, but the lack of any blurring or distortion on the image could suggest that the parts themselves aren’t actually genuine. This however doesn’t mean that the gold or champagne colored device doesn’t exist. A number of well respected and well placed individuals are putting their reputations on the line by stating that this gold variant of the iPhone is indeed going to happen, and happen soon.

With Apple expecting to hold a media event on September 10th we don’t have long to wait to see what they have in store for us and the future of the iPhone.

Siri not included in iPhone 5C

The Apple iPhone 5C is not yet official, but judging by the overwhelming number of leaked images, videos and whispers, the device is coming soon. Latest report suggest the device will not support signature iOS features and capabilities including the Siri voice assistant, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster stated in an investors note released on Monday night.

Munster says that some "software features" like Siri may be excluded from the low cost model. The Wall Street number cruncher forecasts that the iPhone 5C will end up retailing for $300. Apple is then expected to put the Apple iPhone 4S in mothballs and make the iPhone 5C its low end model. The analyst says that eliminating Siri on the low-cost model should be enough to differentiate the iPhone 5C from the iPhone 5S and prevent cannibalization of higher-end sales by the budget version of the phone.

As far as the new full-priced model is concerned, Munster sees a fingerprint scanner coming on the Apple iPhone 5S, but does not believe features like mobile payments will be ready for iOS 7 this year. Instead, he believes that the scanner will offer basic functions such as unlocking the phone. Securing payments using fingerprints won't occur until next year's iOS update, according to Munster.  The long-time Wall Streeter expects a large-screened Apple iPhone and the Apple iWatch to come to market in the middle of next year.

Next-gen iPhone might be called iPhone 5G

The name of the next-gen iPhone might actually be ‘iPhone 5G’, if we were to believe the signage on a box from China allegedly containing the screen of that upcoming iPhone.

Too many ifs, aren’t there? You should definitely take all this with a grain of salt as with everything Apple, but these leaks do look legit.

The leaked front panel and screen look no different than the current iPhone 5, and that falls in line with earlier whispers of changes occurring mostly under the hood with the new Apple device. For now, that’s all there is to it - a simple front panel that is not hooked up to a chip.

The iPhone rumor mill is churning new material every day, though, and it’s heard on the grapevine that Apple is preparing for a September announcement for both an ‘iPhone 5G’ and a plastic iPhone 5C.

Apple releases iTunes 11.0.4

Apple has released a new version of iTunes today, bringing the software to version 11.0.4. The update brings a much needed solution to a bug which would require you to sign in over and over on the iTunes Store.

The new iTunes also improves syncing behavior when you move between wireless and wired iOS device syncing.

The new version also brings album artwork back to the list view of songs, something that went away with version 11.0.

The update is available via the Mac App Store and from apple's website.

Blackberry Messenger coming to Android and iOS this summer for Free.

BlackBerry has just announced that its hugely popular BBM messaging service is going multi-platform: it will be released for Android and iOS this summer. BBM will support iOS hardware running iOS 6 and above; the Android version will be compatible with version 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and above as a free app in the App Store and Google Play. "It's time to bring BBM to a greater audience," CEO Thorsten Heins said in announcing the expansion, "no matter what mobile device they carry."

The company said that it would be bringing messaging and groups functionality to new platforms first but also has plans to introduce voice features, screen sharing, and its just announced ”social engagement platform” dubbed ‘Channels’ in future releases. BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins said the company is “committed to making the BBM experience on other platforms as fully featured” as possible.

The app will be fully featured, with key ingredients like group messaging and screen sharing all coming to the rival platforms.

Apple releases iOS 6.1.4 for iPhone 5

Apple has released a software update for the iPhone 5 that features only one noted change. iOS 6.1.4 isn’t available for any other iPhone models and states that it includes and ‘updated audio profile for speakerphone’.

So it’s probably worth updating just because you’re going to want to keep your device up to date, but don’t expect anything major.

You can download the update directly here or use the Settings>General>Software Update tool on your device. The last update that Apple released was iOS 6.1.3 in March, which fixed a lock screen bypass bug and some of the vulnerabilities that were being used for the Evasi0n jailbreak.

Microsoft Releases ‘Switch to Windows Phone’ Android App

One of the ongoing criticisms of Windows Phone 8 or specifically, the Windows Phone Store, is that it lacks apps. Aside from the gaping gap where many feel Instagram should reside, the platform is still without basic necessities like banking apps, and considering more and more mobile device owners use their gadgets to move money between accounts and whatnot, Windows Phone simply doesn’t cut the mustard for some.

Microsoft cannot pull these missing apps out of thin air, but at least, with the Switch to Windows Phone app, it can present its platform as a welcoming, accommodating, and (aside from the gaps) very capable one.

Having used Windows Phone 8 quite a bit over the past few months via the Lumia 820, I have been impressed with how it runs, the intuitive interface, and seamless customization. But as a daily runner, it’s not viable until the aforementioned issue is addressed, and as beautiful as it may be, its shortcomings make it feel like a promising work in progress at times.

But hey, those are just my opinions, and if you’re somewhat enticed by the whole Windows Phone 8 vibe, the Switch to Windows Phone app will certainly be of assistance. It provides an apps search engine which, powered by Quixey, looks to source alternatives for Windows Phone to the ones you currently use on Android. If the corresponding version of the app is available already (i.e. Facebook), then it selects that, but if not, it will instead index something similar.

The Switch to Windows Phone app is highly recommended to those users who are willing to make the jump to Windows Phone 8, otherwise you can take it for a spin, it’s free, anyways.

Twitter Launches Twitter Music

Twitter has launched a service that lets people find music they like and tweet songs from iTunes, Spotify and Rdio. The app is available for download from Apple's online store and online via Web.

The service uses information from Twitter chatter to detect popular tracks as well as new artists. Users who follow musicians can see other artists those musicians follow and can listen to 30-second clips of songs by them.

While users can tweet what they're listening to and add a few characters of comment, they have to go back to the regular Twitter app for normal Twitter functions. However, the people you're following and who's following you are integrated across both apps.

The service is only available in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand.

A Prototype of Microsoft Smartwatch

A source familiar with the development of Microsoft’s Xbox has spoken with The Verge this week, noting that development of a smartwatch is indeed in the works right now. Sources note that a wrist-worn device has been in development by Microsoft for just over a year, and that this machine wont just be a companion for the gaming console.

Stacking up the tips and suggestions made throughout this month thus far, you’ll find this smartwatch to be working with a 1.5-inch touchscreen display, the possibility of gesture/motion control, and a re-use of the same connectors used for the Microsoft Surface tablets. With these connectors you’ll be able to pick your watch face up, place it down in a special tray, and let it charge all night long.


This connectivity might not make it past the prototype stage and, based on what we understand thus far, the entire watch might stay a prototype into the future as well. Have a peek at the timeline below to see additional clues, bits, and pieces leading to the final product sooner than later.

Apple's iPhone 5S reportedly to come with 12-megapixel camera

Reports states that Apple’s next-generation iPhone (assumed to be dubbed the iPhone 5S) is to come with an all new 12-megapixel camera as well as an improved night shooting mode. According to the site, the rumor comes from a source at Wonderful Saigon Electrics in Binh Duong, which specializes in providing camera modules for the iPhone.

This report doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise, considering that Apple typically features camera improvements in “S” models of the iPhone and included an improved 8 megapixel camera in its iPhone 4S (the 5 did get an improved Saphire lens and other minor improvements).

Apple has also been dedicated to enhancing the camera quality of the iPhone with each iteration as it has become a popular photography device, adding features like panoramas and a volume shutter control. The iPhone has long been the most popular camera on photo sharing site Flickr.

Microsoft reported working on the touched-enabled watch device

Microsoft is reportedly exploring the idea of joining what promises to be a crowded smartwatch market.

The tech titan has asked suppliers in Asia to ship components for a potential touch-enabled watch device, executives at the suppliers told The Wall Street Journal. One executive told the Journal that he had met with Microsoft's research and development team in Redmond, Wash., but it's unclear whether Microsoft will commit to producing such a device.


Microsoft has requested these components to potentially create a touch-enabled watch device, featuring a 1.5 inch display. Microsoft requested displays from component makers for that specific size. No word on exactly if Microsoft will follow through with a touch-enabled watch, but this report gives us a positive outlook on its chances.

Back in 2008, we saw the sales of Microsoft's Smart Watch disappear. Smart Watch was Microsoft's first interest in a wearable gadget, which provided news headlines, sports scores, and instant messages via a FM radio and a subscription fee.

LG Reported to be Working on its own smartwatch and a Google Glass-like Project

Apple, Google, and Samsung are all rumored to be building their own smartwatches, LG becomes the latest manufacturer to reportedly join the fray. According The Korea Times.

LG is currently developing both a smartwatch and another wearable computing device described as something similar to Google Glass. It wouldn't be the first time that LG developed such a product — back in 2009, the company showed off a "watch phone," which came with a full GSM radio built-in for voice calls. This rumored new product would be more along the lines of the Pebble and other speculated smartwatches, with the ability to sync with your smartphone and check messages or other notifications.

The watch is reported to run on Android, which fits considering the company's heavy focus on Google's OS — but there's also a chance it'll run the new Firefox OS that was shown off in detail at MWC last month. While it would certainly make sense for LG to be exploring wearable computing options, the timing of this rumor helps put LG in the conversation alongside consumer technology's giants — smartwatches from Samsung, Google, and Apple are probably the biggest rumor in technology right now.

Google reported working on its own smartwatch!

Reports claimed that Google's Android unit is working on a smart watch. With Samsung confirming that it is working on a smart watch and rumors about Apple's "iWatch" continuing to circulate, it appears that the three companies are set to battle in a new mobile device segment.

The report unsurprisingly suggests that Google views the smart watch as a more mainstream wearable accessory than the Google Glass project that has garnered significant attention in recent months.

While Glass is being created in its X Lab, home to experimental “moonshot” projects such as the self-driving car, Google’s smart watch is being developed by its Android unit, according to a person briefed on the project, to act as an extension to the smartphones using that operating system. The project is separate from Samsung’s efforts, the source said, although there is no indication of when it might launch.

iPhone 5S in Production [Report]

Reports from the popular Japanese blog Macotakara state that the iPhone 5S are in production by Foxconn.

According to the site, the new smartphone is being produced on the same line as the iPhone 5 which suggests minimal changes to the device.

In the last day two separate rumors have surfaced in regards to the release date of the iPhone 5S. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple will unveil the new iPhone 5S, a lower cost iPhone, and iOS 7 in June with devices set for release in July. iMore predicts that Apple will release the iPhone 5S in August and new iPads as soon as April.

Macotakara also reports that Japan's largest cellular provider NTT DoCoMo is reducing orders for Android devices which hints that they might finally carry the iPhone.

The iPhone 5S is expected to feature a faster processor, improved camera, and a fingerprint scanner.

Apple To Release 4.5-inch iPhone In 2014

A new report from Macotakara claims that Apple will release a polycarbonate 4.5-inch iPhone in 2014. The report went on to suggest the handset will be made of polycarbonate; a glossy, robust type of plastic used by many other smartphone vendors, as well as the famed entry-level MacBook.

For the very enticing price tag, the entry-level iPhone will also pack in a 4.5-inch display, which would be noticeably, if not exceptionally larger than that of the current iPhone 5. Although the iPhone 5 is revered for its thin form factor and sleek aluminum finish, those purchasing the entry-level model should not expect such niceties. Apparently, it will be thicker than the current flagship thanks to the polycarbonate body, although the alternative design may also render it more durable than its high-end counterpart.

The report concludes by briefly touching on the subject of the iPhone 5′s successor. The device, which Macotakara is calling the "iPhone 5S", is reckoned to include a dual-flash LED module to help improve the long-standing low-lighting issues, while two flash exposures will allegedly be stacked atop each other on the right-hand side of the camera lens.

iTunes Updated To 11.0.2

Apple has just released iTunes 11.0.2 which, among a bunch of bug fixes, also adds a new Composer view and improves playlist responses.

The new update adds a Composer view for Music, improved responsiveness when handling large playlists, and a bug fix for purchases that do not show up in iTunes. Various other performance enhancements are also included.

You can either check out the new release over at Apple.com or use the software update feature within the iTunes app.

Download iTunes 11.0.2 directly from Apple’s website if you’re planning to do a fresh install, or simply launch the Software Update tool to update your already-existing version of iTunes on your PC or Mac.
