More Nokia X [aka Normandy] emerges as launch date nears

The Nokia X, aka Normandy, is out in the open again – spy shots reveal a device with looks that won't be out of place in the Asha line.

Specs include a 4" WVGA screen, dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 512MB RAM, 5MP camera, 4GB of expandable storage and optional dual-SIM.

Nokia is holding an event on February 24, just before the MWC 14.

Windows Phone 8.1 screenshot leaks

Windows Phone 8.1 is said to be one of the biggest updates ever to arrive on Microsoft’s mobile platform, with a huge list of rumored features, now you are seeing what’s said to be the first and only ‘real’ Windows Phone 8.1 screenshot.

The image shows the settings for the upcoming ‘Notification Center’ in Windows Phone, a feature that is expected to mimic Android’s notification dropdown and store all your unread notifications.

You can see 4 toggles that will show in this new ‘Notification Center’ - GPS, Brightness, Wi-Fi and Flight Mode. You can also select notifications from which exact apps to appear in the new notifications hub, and you can see that there is an option to turn on and off at least email and messaging. A murky new feature inside the notifications hub is ‘banners’ that you can choose to show or not. Receiving notifications in this central hub will not disable live tile notifications. Notifications in the new version of Windows Phone will be actionable, so you could respond to them right in that 'Notification Center'.

Nokia X a.k.a Normandy specs leaks; to come in 6 different color variants

The latest information regarding Nokia's first ever Android smartphone comes again from evleaks, who have provided some of the key specs of the device.

Specs include a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, support for Google Play, Google Now and other Google services. The phone will also have 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage memory. Other specs include a 4.0-inch, WVGA (800 x 480) display, 5 megapixel camera, dual-SIM support and a 1,500mAh battery. 

The handset will be called Nokia X, not Normandy, which will have 6 different color versions.

Nokia's MWC conference scheduled for February 24

Nokia has pinpointed the date for its Mobile World Congress 2014 press event. You can mark your calendars for Monday, February 24 when the event will start at 8:30AM (7:30AM GMT).

Reading "Meet us under the tree," the press invite carefully keeps Nokia's cards close to its chest and doesn't reveal anything. It's possible for the company to be having a word play with "tree" standing for three smartphones.

There are rumors floating about for three new additions to the Lumia family 1520V, 1525 and 1820. 

The Lumia 1520V is rumored to be a 4.3" smartphone with a design similar to that of the Lumia 1520 (hence the name). With a 1080p resolution, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the Lumia 1520V is set to rival the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and will feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset like its bigger brother, the Lumia 1520.

The mini Lumia 1520V is also said to pack a 14MP camera at the back with a 3,000mAh battery capable of wireless charging. Moreover, it's believed to debut the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, but for now those remain unfounded rumors.

Onto the Nokia Lumia 1820, which is expected to feature the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset with 3GB of RAM and a 5.2" display of 2K resolution. The juicy configuration is going to draw power from a 3,400mAh battery. The internal storage is going to be 32GB with no microSD card to be making its way to the rumored phone just yet.

The rumor mill reckons the Lumia 1525 phablet is going to be the third phone of the family that'll make it to MWC 2014. At this point, there aren't much rumors to paint a picture for it, but it's believed to be a 6" phablet.

Lastly, there's the highly anticipated Android smartphone from Nokia codenamed Normandy. It's been leaking extensively with live photos and UI screenshots, but nobody knows if Nokia will unveil it at MWC 2014. The Mobile World Congress saw Nokia make a bang in 2012 with the 808 PureView cameraphone, so why not shock the world again in 2014 with an Android phone?

The Nokia Normandy is said to run Android 4.4.1 KitKat and pack a 854 x 540 resolution display. It's also hinted by the leaked UI screenshots to boast dual-SIM functionality.

Nokia Normandy Spotted once again in China

A user on a Chinese website Weibo has posted the live picture showing the app launcher of the Nokia Normandy phone.

We already saw the Normandy numerous times in the wild, so we know pretty much everything there is to know about the anticipated droid - we know its specs, how it looks and even an alleged announcement date during the MWC this year.

And now, in case you've wondered what a Nokia-designed Android launcher would look like, you get a chance to see it. It's obviously inspired by the Asha lineup as is the hardware of the prototype and is unlike anything else in the market right now.

Nokia Normandy leaks, dual-SIM and runs on Android 4.4

Last month we learned the codenamed Normandy device is supposed to be an entry-level Android smartphone. The leaks suggested Normandy will be reusing the iconic Lumia design and will come in a plethora of different colors, just like the affordable Asha and Lumia phones.

@evleaks has posted renders of Normandy running on Android. We get to see a glimpse of Nokia's launcher, particularly the lockscreen, Viber and Skype apps. Judging by the Normandy's status bar, this should be a dual-SIM phone.

Another leaks from today sheds some more light on the alleged Normandy specs. As it turns out someone has put the Normandy through AnTuTu's test, so we can see some of its specs. Nokia RM-980 A110 codenamed Normandy reported featuring a 4" FWVGA display (480x854 pixels), a 5MP rear camera and runs on Android 4.4.1 KitKat. Naturally, the chipset powering the Normandy is Qualcomm Snapdragon.

 

If Normandy is similar to the previously tipped "Mountain View" Android prototype, then it might be running (as previously suggested) on the Snapdragon 200 chipset (quad-core Cortex-A5/Adreno 203 or quad-core Cortex-A7/Adreno 302).

Jolla releases new mobile OS 'Sailfish OS'

The new OS smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, automotive and other devices.
Finnish start-up firm Jolla has released the new Sailfish OS and detailed the improved multitasking features, interaction and its personalisation options.
Developed in collaboration with Sailfish, the new Sailfish Software Development Kit (SDK) and Jolla User Interface (UI) will support multiple chipset technologies.

According to Jolla, ST-Ericsson is all set to support the new Sailfish OS in its NovaThor platforms.
Jolla CEO Marc Dillon said that ST-Ericsson's NovaThor platform combined with Sailfish OS will enable vendors to bring competitive mobile products to the market. "We also target to announce other chipset provider partnerships soon," Dillon said.

Supporting smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, automotive and other device classes, the new OS will be developed through community participation.

The Sailfish SDK features Mer Core's tools, Qt Creator, Jolla UI components, Sailfish UI framework and Sailfish handset application interfaces.

The Sailfish user interface is claimed to be developed as per the latest user requirements and the UI Sailfish will offer easy multitasking.

Jolla is also planning to offer ready-made Jolla hardware to mobile network operators and also advised that firms that desire to incorporate their own technologies to the device can also deploy without sharing their elements with other vendors that operate on Sailfish.

The start was formed by a group of former Nokia employees who left the company following its decision to shift to Windows OS ditching the MeeGo operating system.
