Nokia's MWC conference scheduled for February 24

Nokia has pinpointed the date for its Mobile World Congress 2014 press event. You can mark your calendars for Monday, February 24 when the event will start at 8:30AM (7:30AM GMT).

Reading "Meet us under the tree," the press invite carefully keeps Nokia's cards close to its chest and doesn't reveal anything. It's possible for the company to be having a word play with "tree" standing for three smartphones.

There are rumors floating about for three new additions to the Lumia family 1520V, 1525 and 1820. 

The Lumia 1520V is rumored to be a 4.3" smartphone with a design similar to that of the Lumia 1520 (hence the name). With a 1080p resolution, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, the Lumia 1520V is set to rival the Sony Xperia Z1 Compact and will feature a Snapdragon 800 chipset like its bigger brother, the Lumia 1520.

The mini Lumia 1520V is also said to pack a 14MP camera at the back with a 3,000mAh battery capable of wireless charging. Moreover, it's believed to debut the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system, but for now those remain unfounded rumors.

Onto the Nokia Lumia 1820, which is expected to feature the latest Snapdragon 805 chipset with 3GB of RAM and a 5.2" display of 2K resolution. The juicy configuration is going to draw power from a 3,400mAh battery. The internal storage is going to be 32GB with no microSD card to be making its way to the rumored phone just yet.

The rumor mill reckons the Lumia 1525 phablet is going to be the third phone of the family that'll make it to MWC 2014. At this point, there aren't much rumors to paint a picture for it, but it's believed to be a 6" phablet.

Lastly, there's the highly anticipated Android smartphone from Nokia codenamed Normandy. It's been leaking extensively with live photos and UI screenshots, but nobody knows if Nokia will unveil it at MWC 2014. The Mobile World Congress saw Nokia make a bang in 2012 with the 808 PureView cameraphone, so why not shock the world again in 2014 with an Android phone?

The Nokia Normandy is said to run Android 4.4.1 KitKat and pack a 854 x 540 resolution display. It's also hinted by the leaked UI screenshots to boast dual-SIM functionality.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Neo Press Shot announcement soon

The Galaxy Note 3 Neo has been leaked in extensive detail in the past few weeks, and it looks like an official announcement could happen soon. The phone’s pre-order page is set to go up soon. The pre-order price is €599.

It will sport a 5.55″ 720p Super AMOLED display, 8-megapixel camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB storage and a microSD slot, a 3,100 mAh battery, LTE connectivity, and Android 4.3, with S Pen features from the Note 3 such as Air Command Action Memo, Scrapbook, Screen Write, S Finder, Pen Window, S Note, Multi Window, new Easy Clip, and Direct Pen Input. It will be launched in markets before the end of March, and an official showcase is expected at the MWC in late February.

Tizen smartphone is delayed again...

Samsung just can’t seem to catch a break with Tizen, as the first commercial smartphone running on the new OS has been delayed once again. NTT DoCoMo recently scrapped plans for its Tizen phone, and it looks like even Samsung isn’t ready to release one just yet. “It is true that the release has been delayed,” said one official at Samsung Electronics’ Media Solution Center (MSC) today in Korea. “Previously we did had planned to release in the first half of this year in several countries, including Korea and Russia.”

Samsung had recently said that the first Tizen phone would be unveiled on February 23rd, but that date is now being rumored to be the one when Samsung will announce the Galaxy S5 instead. It’s unclear what is causing the delays, though it could be that the company doesn’t want to take any limelight away from its Android flagship, which is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated smartphones ever (well, that’s usually the case with every Galaxy S flagship), or it could be because of obstacles they’ve run into while trying to develop the OS.

Either way, it looks like those looking forward to trying out Tizen will have wait a few months, or maybe until the next year.

Galaxy S5 won’t have magnetic resonance wireless charging

Back in October, rumors emerged about the possibility of Samsung implementing magnetic resonance wireless charging, a technology that allows wireless charging of a device without direct contact with the charging pad, on its smartphones. The rumors suggested that the technology would find its way into phones from mid-2014, but some were still hopeful that it would be ready in time to find a place on the Galaxy S5.

However, that’s not likely to happen, according to a report from the Korean media. Industry officials have said that Samsung might skip on putting magnetic resonance wireless charging on the Galaxy S5; apparently, the technology does exist and it won’t be difficult to implement it on the S5, but Samsung doesn’t believe the technology is marketable yet and isn’t sure of whether consumers will be willing to cough up extra cash for the feature.

Samsung’s reluctance does make sense, as even standard wireless charging is a feature that hasn’t caught on in the market yet (mainly due to the cost of wireless chargers, and lack of the necessary marketing explaining why the feature is useful) – couple that with the already excessive prices of smartphones these days, and it could be a while before it becomes feasible to implement the contact-less wireless charging tech in consumer devices.

Samsung Galaxy S5 release date is February 23

Eldar Murtazin a renowned leaker posted on twitter unveiling date for Samsung's next flagship, claiming that the flagship will be announced February 23 at Samsung's 18:00 event in Barcelona, a day before the MWC expo officially commences.

The actual launch will happen in April, he claims, which will be available for purchase. We heard that Samsung will unveil a Tizen flagship at the same day.

The specs are already known, as you have heared; a new QHD display, new Exynos, 16 MP camera, and 2900 mAh battery with silicon electrodes that allowed Samsung to boost capacity, while keeping the footprint intact, this battery will last for days on a charge.

Pricing is said to be in line with each and every flagship launch, which means in the vicinity of $600-$700 without a contract, and $200 on one.
